The project is located at Barking Town Quay in London, formerly a busy fishing industry area. Since the establishment of the railway, the River Roding stopped transporting goods, and the quay area is no longer used.
This proposal is designed to reactivate the site, improving connections between the two sides of the river where new residential communities are currently under construction. This place has great potential to become a new social leisure hub for residents of Barking – a place where people can take a walk by the river, eat in the floating restaurant, rent a canoe, buy local handicrafts, or learn a new skill from local artists in the Fablab. The project provides market and retail space, a public square and footpath, a workshop, and exhibition space. Everyone in Barking is warmly welcomed here, even children can have fun in the children’s café.
This work was developed as part of group work by Zhuoying Xu, in collaboration with Zhan Shi.
