Mayfair used to be the heart of fashion. However, with the excessive development of the retail industry, especially luxury brands, and increasing land prices, the unique creativity and diversity of this fashion frontier has been lost. This proposal aims to provide a platform in Mayfair for independent fashion designers. Studios, co-maker spaces, exhibition galleries, and shops are created for independent designers at the connection point of New Bond Street and the Tyburn River. A promenade route and transparent roof top grid structure connect these areas and allow the makers to be their own ‘loungers’, modelling their work for reposting via social media.
This work was developed as part of group work by Weiwei Huang, in collaboration with Yuqi Kong, Sunyige Luo, and Xinran Chen.
The Tyburn River Route, where the proposal is located, sits sandwiched between the key fashion streets of Saville Row and New Bond Street.
The rooftops provide independent platforms of different sizes for gathering, including a public café.
Within the ‘cloud’ there are pockets of space for students to network and self-advertise their fashion.
The proposed route consists of three parts. The first section contains the muse studios, the second section is the open gallery in the middle, and the third is for pop-up independent retail.
